In this work from 2012, Vera Mantero focuses on the desertification and dehumanization of the Serra do Caldeirão mountain range in the Algarve.
The result is a dance performance that is populated by voices from afar. Mixing together her own video footage with the film collections of anthropologist Michel Giacometti, Vera Mantero takes a close look at traditional and rural life practices, knowledge of oral cultures from north to south, and also from other continents – such as the Indians of South America, mentioned by Eduardo Viveiros de Castro - in a broad portrait of the peoples who have wisdom about the connection between the body and spirit, between everyday life and art. A wisdom that we can (and should, for our own good) reactivate.
