2024.02.15 Israel Galván - La Consagración de la Primavera

Son of two Seville-born dancers, Israel Galván began dancing flamenco at a very young age and is now considered one of the most innovative dancers and choreographers in the world. Galván draws inspiration from a variety of themes such as bullfighting, football culture, and cinematic imagery, taking flamenco into more experimental territories and challenging the norms of the genre. Fascinated by the silhouettes of Russian dancer Vaslav Nijinski, in this performance, he intertwines flamenco with the imposing score of Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, subverting and reconstructing tradition while exploring all the possibilities of flamenco. Galván uses his body as a resonating box – from the fingers of his hands to his feet, with the classic zapateado – allowing himself to be consumed by the rhythm of the music, performed live by pianists Daria van den Bercken and Gerard Bouwhuis, in a performance that promises to close GUIdance in an apotheosis.
